Future-proof with RoHS
Restriction of Hazardous Substances
RoHs – Careful handling of hazardous substances in the EMS sector
The increasing production and use of electrical and electronic products (EEE*) such as mobile phones, computers and kitchen appliances has led to an increasing amount of electrical and electronic waste (WEEE**).
The use, collection, treatment and disposal of WEEE** can release harmful (hazardous) substances such as lead, mercury and cadmium, which can cause significant environmental and health problems.
The EU’s RoHS Directive therefore restricts the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. At the same time, the WEEE Directive promotes the collection and recycling of such equipment.
*EEE = Electrical and Electronic Equiment
**WEEE = Waste Electrical and Electronic Equiment

The RoHS Directive currently restricts the use of ten substances:
- Lead
- Cadmium
- Mercury
- Hexavalent chromium
- Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB)
- Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE)
- Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP)
- Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP)
- Dibutyl phthalate (DBP)
- Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP)
We check all components for RoHS compliance before they are used and consult directly with our customers if a supplied part or a component with a manufacturer binding does not appear to comply with the regulations according to our inspection.
Together we find an alternative component that fulfils the requirements of modern environmental and personal protection.
The main objectives of RoHS
- Protection of the environment and human health
- Environmentally sound recovery and disposal of electrical and
electronic equipment - Reducing the use of hazardous substances in the electronics industry
- Promoting the use of harmless alternative substances in the production of EEE
- Increasing the recyclability of EEE
- Transparency through mandatory CE labelling
- Harmonisation of legislation in the EU
